Why train in stress management?
Stress is one of the most serious health issues of our times and stress management skills are always in demand. Whether you are planning to start a new career, improve your existing skills or study for personal development reasons this stress management training course will ensure that you achieve your goals. It broadly covers:
- interpersonal skills - the counselling skills you will need
- introduction to psychology and physiology
- the professional stress manager
- understanding stress
- stress management and relaxation
- a unique Directory of Interventions containing nearly forty specific techniques to help your clients
- professional development
The 341 page workbook is divided into ten modules. At the end of each module are written assignments which you submit to your tutor for feedback. This forms the main part of the course, although further reading is encouraged. The recommended books to support you on this course are
- Atkinson and Hilgard's Introduction to Psychology
- Mind, stress and health by Richard Totman (currently out of print, but full of useful information and easy enough to pick up second hand)
Plenty of support is available from your personal tutor, who will be available to answer your queries, help resolve any course issues, and provide feedback as you move through the workbook. Research updates are available after completion via an associated peer support group, and you'll receive our monthly newsletter which includes tips about building your business and working with clients.
When you have successfully completed the course, you will be in a position to understand the physiological manifestations and implications of stress, the psychological profile of your clients and how to use that profile will to provide effective treatment.
This is a practitioner level course (see below) so you should expect to invest a significant amount of time in it. The exact time you spend will vary according to how fast you read, how much extra reading etc you do but the average reported by students is 80-100 hours. There is no time limit on completing the course so you can work on it as and when convenient.
Stress Management Certification
There are no specific regulations in the UK covering stress management, or the level of training required to practice as a stress management therapist. However, this Diploma in Stress Management has been accredited at level 3 by the ACCPH, which means it can be taken as a qualification in its own right as well as being an excellent CPD opportunity for those already established in the caring professions.
On successful completion you can become a member of the ACCPH. The Stress Management Society will also accept graduates of this course as members at Associate Level. (You will also have to satisfy other criteria, e.g provide references).
